Oh la la! English Crème Fraîche is quite simply cream with a friendly culture added to give it a slightly sharp flavour. Crème Fraîche originates from the French (they are very generous with words!), meaning Fresh Cream.
This superbly light cream is a great companion to almost any dish: eat with omelette for breakfast, fresh fruit for elevenses or as a healthy alternative to mayonnaise in your cheesy 'slaw. We are not ashamed to admit Creme Fraiche is part of our everyday eating and Cook is never without a jar!
